"The Private Chapel of the Rector of the University, part of the former college of S. Pedro, is located between the former quarters of the infants of the Royal Palace and the structure of the Porta Férrea; over the angular spire, it is octagonal in plan and the ceiling is painted in trompe l'oeil (perspective painting) by the same authors of the ceilings of the Joanina Library (Vicente Nunes and António Simões Ribeiro). The altar is from the beginning of the 18th century, in baroque style and in gilded carving. The central figure, also baroque in polychrome wood is the patron saint of the University, the Immaculate Conception."
