Freshwater invertebrates: key to identifying the main families
Regular price €7,35
The history of human societies is closely linked to rivers, and their future will depend on the availability of good quality water. Living beings found in rivers provide important ecosystem services on which we depend: water purification, energy synthesis, plant and animal production, many of which are of direct economic interest; but all important indirectly. This work aims to help discover some of the organisms that inhabit rivers, the aquatic macroinvertebrates. It is presented in the form of an identification guide for the main invertebrates that may occur in rivers in Portugal. The key is pictographic, so a small number of features are marked at each step. These characteristics are indicated in figures attached to each step. The authors would like to thank the Biology and Environmental Engineering students at the University of Coimbra for their encouragement, as well as the support of the Coordination and Regional Development Commission of Alentejo and "CNRS Editions" of Paris, France.
